At MAN Museum, five new events spanning literature, science, comics, and audiovisual experimentation
From 2 to 28 October, BiblioMANia returns to the Museum with a new and rich edition: a programme of five events featuring Marco Buttu, Majid Bita, Riccardo Atzeni, Andrea Giuliacci and Nicola Serra. Presentations, a workshop, a live painting session, a lecture and audiovisual performance bring a range of different experiences and forms of expression to the museum, from research in Antarctica to the contemporary history of Iran, from family ties to climate change and the rituals of Sardinian tradition.
In dialogue with Nostalgia di futuro, the theme of MAN’s annual programme, the series curated by Alessandro Moni weaves together memory and imagination, knowledge and storytelling. Books are the starting point for a journey that extends into drawing, sound and moving images, opening up a dialogue between authors, artists and the public.
The programme will open on Friday, 2 October, at 6:30 pm, with Marco Buttu in conversation with Chiara Gatti. An engineer and researcher, Buttu will present La matrioska di Penrose (Mondadori, 2026), a novel that explores the intersection of science and spirituality. The conversation will also touch on his missions to Antarctica and his experience of living in extreme conditions, recounted in Marte Bianco. Nel cuore dell’Antartide. Tre anni ai confini della vita.
On Wednesday, 7 October, at 6:30 pm, Majid Bita will present L’autobus incantato (Canicola, 2025). An illustrator and author born in Iran, Bita constructs a collective journey that, through the stories of twenty-one Iranian intellectuals, recounts the history and tensions of his country. Comics thus become a tool for navigating collective memory and giving voice to its protagonists.
The third event, on Wednesday, 14 October, will focus on Riccardo Atzeni and Devo andare nello spazio (BAO Publishing, 2026), his first graphic novel as sole author: a journey into space through family ties, absence and forgiveness. The programme includes a workshop open to everyone at 5:00 pm, followed at 6:30 pm by a live painting session with musical accompaniment by Spettinè, inviting the public to engage with visual storytelling by experiencing the creative process itself.
On Wednesday, 21 October, at 6:30 pm, Andrea Giuliacci, physicist, climatologist and television weather presenter, will give a talk based on the book Nella peggiore delle ipotesi. Come il clima cambierà il mondo se non faremo nulla per evitarlo (Rizzoli, 2023). The discussion will focus on future scenarios for climate change and possible actions to limit its effects, connecting scientific research with the choices that shape our present.
The series will conclude on Wednesday, 28 October, at 6:30 pm, with Nicola Serra and Digital Mourners. The London-based sound artist will present an audiovisual performance that reinterprets Sardinian funeral rituals through sound, images and electronic experimentation. An immersive composition in which forms of mourning and memory meet contemporary artistic languages.
