On Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 pm, MAN presents Horizon, a short film written and directed by Daniele De Muro. The screening will be followed by a conversation with the director, actors Carlo Porru and Daniele Meloni, and make-up artist Roberta Picciau.
Set in the near future, Horizon depicts a civil society devastated by the climate crisis and on the verge of collapse. In the borderlands, crossed by survivors in search of safety, humanity is forced to confront its most primordial nature, within a desolate reality governed by the law of the strongest.
Through the language of science fiction, the short film explores the extreme consequences of the environmental crisis and the fragilities of the present. Its dystopian vision thus enters into dialogue with the themes of FUTURAMA. Nostalgia for the Future, the exhibition currently on view at MAN, dedicated to the hopes, utopias, and anxieties that have shaped visions of the future throughout the twentieth century.
The evening will open with a brief introduction by the director and cast, followed by the screening of the 15-minute short film. Afterwards, the audience will have the opportunity to engage with the guests and learn more about the different stages of production: from writing and set design to actor preparation, make-up and costumes, as well as cinematography, music, and sound.
Photographs and videos taken during production will also offer an insight into the work of the various departments involved.
Carlo Porru and Daniele Meloni will also share aspects of their respective careers in film and theatre.
Starring Carlo Porru, Daniele Meloni, and Viola Scuderi, Horizon had its Italian premiere at the 19th Trieste Science+Fiction Festival and has been selected for more than 250 international film festivals. Among others, the film has participated in the 66th edition of the David di Donatello Awards, the Salerno Film Festival, the Salento International Film Festival, the Lamezia International Film Festival, and the Spello International Film Festival.
Throughout its international festival run, Horizon has received more than one hundred awards and recognitions, including Best Independent Director at the Los Angeles Film Awards, Best Director at the European Cinematography Award, the Cittadella Geo Film Festival, and the Castel Lagopesole Film Festival, as well as an Honourable Mention at the Bordeaux Shorts Biennale.
