What happens when a family trauma becomes a tool for knowledge and collective awareness? This question lies at the heart of the event dedicated to 3,350 gr. Photographs and Letters on Obstetric Violence, Valeria Cherchi’s book addressing obstetric violence through photographs, archival documents, and international testimonies.
In the presence of the artist and curator Elisabetta Masala, the presentation will retrace the development of a project rooted in a deeply personal story: the death of the artist’s sister a few months after birth as a result of an unreported episode of obstetric violence. Over time, the project evolved into a research-based investigation intertwining personal memory, documentary inquiry, and critical reflection, expanding an individual experience into a broader examination of the social, cultural, and institutional dimensions of a phenomenon that remains insufficiently acknowledged in public discourse.
For the occasion, Valeria Cherchi will carry out a special intervention on the copies of the book, manually applying the small paper stamp featured on the cover. A simple yet meaningful gesture that transforms each copy into a unique object activated directly by the artist.
3,350 gr. Photographs and Letters on Obstetric Violence is published by Mousse Publishing with the support of Strategia Fotografia 2025, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
Free admission, subject to availability.
