The artist residency programme between Monte Verità and Nuoro returns
The second edition of the artist residency programme developed through the collaboration between MAN and the Monte Verità Foundation in Ascona (Switzerland), dedicated to exchange and research between Sardinian and Swiss artists, is now entering its most active phase.
The programme, Places of Second Origin, takes its title from a concept inspired by Deleuze’s notion of place as a space of new beginnings and regeneration, bringing into dialogue two territories connected by a strong historical and cultural identity: Monte Verità and Sardinia. Two places that are both peripheral and central at once, shaped by layered histories, powerful landscapes, and a privileged relationship between nature, thought, and experimentation.
The residency activities of Sardinian artists Giulia Camba, Roberto Casti, and Chiara Cordeschi are already underway at the Monte Verità Foundation. The artists have been invited to develop site-specific research inspired by the history and symbolic dimension of the renowned “Hill of Utopia,” a place inhabited at the dawn of the twentieth century by artists, philosophers, architects, and key figures of European counterculture.
Beginning on 25 May, the project will continue in Nuoro with the arrival of Swiss artists Davide Barbieri, Massimiliano Rossetto, and Miki Tallone, who will be hosted by MAN for a period of research and engagement with the Barbagia region. Through meetings, visits, and shared experiences, the artists will be invited to engage with the landscape, histories, and cultural layers of the host territory.
Conceived as an experience of exploration and attentive listening, Places of Second Origin reaffirms MAN’s commitment to promoting research-based practices capable of activating relationships, generating new narratives, and fostering an open cultural exchange between territories and communities.
