The Board of Directors of the MAN Museum met on 1 March, in the presence of all members, to examine the situation relating to the acquisition of works of art for the permanent museum collection following the recent news that appeared in the local press.

In relation to this, during the meeting the Board of Directors noted that the Museum has significantly enriched its artistic heritage over the course of over twenty years.

The collection, in fact, from an initial endowment of 100 works at the time of its establishment, can now count on a quantity of approximately 1000 works, including purchases, donations and loans of paintings and sculptures by the most important artists of the twentieth century.

The meeting was therefore an opportunity to focus on the procedures for acquiring works for the MAN’s heritage.

From what was examined it emerged that all acquisition measures took place in full compliance with the provisions set out in the museum regulations.

It was therefore noted that the procedures used for all purchases of works were governed by the regulatory provisions, which, very clearly, place the exclusive prerogative of formulating acquisition proposals for the Museum on the Artistic Director.

During the examination it is also highlighted that the same Director is also required, as provided for in the individual contract, to express opinions both on the authenticity and on the evaluation and congruity of the costs of the works to be ensured for the MAN’s assets in full compliance with the programmatic lines that the Museum aims to achieve with its mission of cultural promotion.
