I nascosti
Valentina Tamborra in conversation with Armando Besio

Now reduced to just over eighty thousand people, the Sámi are a largely nomadic population devoted to reindeer herding, who have always moved freely across the vast Arctic landscapes now divided among four different countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia.

Valentina Tamborra met them, portrayed them, and listened to them over the course of four consecutive years and journeys, creating an unprecedented photographic and narrative reportage. She tells their story—their life and traditions, their resistance to a long process of forced assimilation, and their daily struggles with the effects of relentless climate change.
