The MAN – Museum of Art of the Province of Nuoro is pleased to host, on Wednesday, August 6 at 6:30 PM, the presentation of the essay Femme Fatale. Enchantment and Crisis of Bourgeois Civilization by Fabrizio Casu, published by VJ Edizioni (Milan, 2023).
During the event, the author will be in conversation with Chiara Gatti, the museum’s director.
Through a cross-disciplinary analysis that weaves together art, fashion, cinema, theater, literature, sociology, and philosophy, the book reconstructs the genealogy and metamorphoses of the femme fatale – an iconic and unsettling figure who, starting in the second half of the 19th century, embodies the eruption of the irrational, of otherness, and of female sexuality into Western bourgeois culture.
From ancestral myth to a tool of emancipation, from misogynistic obsession to cultural phenomenon, the femme fatale emerges as a lens through which to read the crises of modernity, up to her current presence – caught between oblivion and survival – in contemporary pop culture.
Fabrizio Casu, born in Sassari, is a fashion historian, lecturer, and author of numerous essays on 20th-century fashion and visual culture. He has exhibited in both solo and group shows, including participation in the 2011 Sardinia Biennale, promoted by the Italy Pavilion of the 54th Venice Biennale.
Admission is free while seats last.
