OUR ORU
My Sardinia

A photographic book that tells the story of the Sardinian land and its most authentic soul

The author Gianni Rizzotti will dialogue with Alessandro Moni

In his journey as a photographer and traveller, Gianni Rizzotti has visited and experienced places at every latitude of the Earth. When he arrived in Sardinia for the first time over 35 years ago, it only took a few hours, the mistral, the bottarga and the Vermentino to understand that he would return to this land again and again. And so it was.

Three years ago, after several editorial projects, he decided to tell in a book, through the camera, what he had seen and what the Sardinian people and this region had conveyed to him over all these years.

Beauty , pride , passion , friendship , instinct , isolation , nature And authenticity . All this is the Sardinian soul . All this is Oru Nostru , My Sardinia.

Oru Nostru is a photographic project that tells the story of the Sardinian land, its truest soul and its excellences with the passion and pride that have always distinguished it. Sardinia is first of all territory, people, tradition and culture and that’s exactly what Gianni Rizzotti manages to convey through his images.

A photographic journey that was fueled day after day by word of mouth from the artists and artisans that Rizzotti photographed and who from time to time suggested new faces and new places, all incredibly rich and authentic in their uniqueness. The light and the camera did the rest.

The book is made up of 199 images in which the Sardinian people, Sardinia itself and its most authentic soul are the true protagonists. Photos of Paolo Fresu, Antonio Marras, Chiara Vigo alternate with centenarian faces, silk, wood and embroidery artisans. Inside there are shots of Sa Carrela ‘e Nati a Santu Lussurgiu, of Sartiglia and of the events in Ottana, Mamoiada, Sant’Antioco and beyond. The project is completed by images of Sardinian food and wine excellences, such as Su Filindeu, and of places of art and culture scattered across the entire region, including the archaeological site of Barumini. Finally, nature and the sea, wild and wonderful.

Oru Nostru, which has 224 pages, is a story in black and white with a short chapter in colour, those of Sardinia: the green of the oil, the golden color of the carasau bread, the yellow-amber of the bottarga, the red of the saffron and naturally the shades of blue and sea blue.

“It is a tribute that I had and wanted to pay to Sardinia – says Gianni Rizzotti – This land is a continuous surprise in its places and people, even today after over 35 years. It must be discovered slowly, with its own rhythms and moments, without forcing anything.”

Oru Nostru is a book that must be browsed with your eyes and heart to learn about the true rhythms of the Sardinian land, sometimes calmer, other times more impetuous.
