Guido Guidi IN SARDEGNA: 1974, 2011

curated by Irina Zucca Alessandrelli

21.06  -  27.10.2019
Opening: Opening: 7:00 p.m., Friday 21 June 2019

From Friday 21 June to Sunday 27 October 2019, the MAN Museo d’Arte Provincia di Nuoro will be the first Italian museum to host a major exhibition devoted to Guido Guidi (Cesena, 1941), one of the most important names in Italian post-war photography. Guido Guidi - IN SARDEGNA: 1974, 2011 is an exhibition curated by Irina Zucca Alessandrelli and produced by the MAN in partnership with the ISRE, Istituto Superiore Regionale Etnografico della Sardegna. It will feature 232 unpublished photographs illustrating Guido Guidi’s relationship with Sardinia, some taken during his first visit in 1974 and others in 2011, the year he worked on an important commission for the ISRE.

The exhibition provides both an anthropological and environmental account of the changes that took place on the island over the course of four decades, exploring the medium of photography by juxtaposing black and white images from the 1970s with colour pictures from the 2010s.

The works on display, reprinted by the artist for the exhibition, are documented in a three-volume catalogue in a slip-case published by MACK Books, a London-based contemporary photography publisher.
