Antonio Rovaldi

A cloud has come down on me

06.02  -  06.04.2015
Opening: Inauguration: Friday 6 February, 7 pm

“A cloud has come down on me is the tale of Antonio Rovaldi's trip by bicycle around Sardinia. The exhibition at the MAN Museum – which follows the one held last year in the town of Gavoi at the time of the “Isola delle Storie”book festival - is part of the Orizzonte in Italia project, which the artist undertook in 2011 and which ended with his Sardinian experience in the summer of 2014.

The exhibition, designed specifically for the rooms of the museum, consists of a photographic installation composed of twenty elements corresponding to the legs of his journey. The images of the horizon – in line with the overall project – are those by which the artist shows the roads travelled, reconstructing a sort of stippling of the island's perimeter, as well as a new chromatic pentagram to narrate "a distance".

An audio installation accompanies the images; it is a montage of voices of the inhabitants of the places travelled through, whom the artist questioned as to which roads to take to reach his destinations. What is created is a surreal dialogue based on a personal idea of distance between places and things. The map directions of Sardinia followed by the artist are constantly contradicted and redesigned by the people he met, thus creating a true oral map of the land.

The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue published by Humboldt Books. It contains the entire Orizzonte in Italia project, with travel notes, images, drawings and texts by Lorenzo Giusti, Leonardo Passarelli, Pier Luigi Tazzi and Francesco Zanot.
